Manning Park Resort Suspends Operations due to COVID-19 Concerns

March 30 Update – We have temporarily suspended operations at Manning Park Resort due to COVID-19 concerns as of March 19. We will continue to watch the progress and precautionary measures taken to evaluate when we can reopen. At this time, we are unable to confirm our opening date.

Please note that the entire Resort area is closed and is not accessible for any facilities, including washrooms.

From BC Parks: Manning Park’s trails and day use areas are still open to the public for the moment. All facilities are closed to the public such as campgrounds, outhouses, the resort, and visitor centre. For updated trail information see the BC Parks Trail Report here.

Reservation questions – Please note that our email and phone lines are not being regularly attended to. The best way to get ahold of us is to email info@manningpark.com. We will be periodically checking and responding to emails. Timing of response could be up to two weeks. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.

The Nordic and Alpine Ski areas are closed – no persons or vehicles are permitted in these areas.

Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time. Stay healthy!

March 19 Update – Manning Park Resort has temporarily suspended all operations as of 4pm Wednesday, March 18, 2020.  This decision is due to the announcement by the BC Health Authority with respect to COVID-19.

Please note that the entire resort area is closed and is not accessible for any facilities, including washrooms.

For any reservation questions, please note that our email and phone lines are not being regularly attended to, however, please leave us a message or email info@manningpark.com and we will be periodically responding to them.

The ski area is closed at Strawberry Flats and no vehicles are permitted past this point.

E.C. Manning Provincial Park camping is closed as per BC Parks, however the trails remain open to explore for day tripping. As per BC Parks, “Visitors may use front country and backcountry areas where accessible but should keep in mind they are responsible for their own safety and that washroom facilities will not be available at parks.”

Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time. Please enjoy some fresh air and stay safe!

March 16 – Manning Park Resort, while sitting on a great deal of snow, recognizes it has a role to play in protecting the public and our staff. This temporary closure will include all areas of Manning Park Resort including the lodge and cabin accommodations, all food and beverage outlets, as well as the Nordic Centre and ski area. The snowshoe and backcountry trails in E.C. Manning Park remain open.

Over the next two to three days, we will work diligently to move guest reservations that had planned their Spring Break activities with us. We anticipate that there will be many calls and emails and we appreciate your patience as we work to answer them.

While we would have liked to finish the season, we recognize that we are dealing with extraordinary circumstances and we want to do our part. In the past we have kept some activities as well as Food and Accommodation options available at the end of the snow season. To meet the guidelines mandated by the Provincial government, we will be closing all facilities for a period of at least two weeks, as of Wednesday. Our spring events are also regretfully cancelled.

We know this is disappointing news. We thank you for your understanding. For any other updates as they become available, please visit our website.

Thank you,

Vern Schram

  1. Good move We were planning on coming but had already decided to change plans. Thanks for helping to stop this.

    • Hi there. Is the tubing closed or just the skiing?

      • All operations at the entire resort, including the lodge, ski area and all f&B operations will be closing as of 4pm Wednesday.

  2. Are we gonna get refunds for our deposits though? We are supposed to come this weekend March 20-22 for two nights stay and ski.

    • Hi Rolando, we have relaxed our cancellation policy and we will work with our guests to find a solution! Our reservation desk will be experiencing high call volume, but we invite you to leave a message or email us at info@manningpark.com and we will get back to you as soon as we are able!

      • Your desk is absolutely not prepared to not about any cancellation or rescheduling btw. I asked for a refund just because she couldn’t clearly tell me what are my options.

    • So sorry to hear that you are temporarily closing the resort. My family supposed to arrive this Saturday and stay two nights as we did last year during the spring break. Please let me know your solution, hopefully, a refund.

      Thank you!

  3. Will the provincial park be closed? I know people sometime camp there in the winter.

    • We are waiting to hear more information on this, but it’s our understanding that the trails will still be open.

  4. NO! Not a good move! the vacation next weekend will be a great stress reliever and the opportunity for a family to have some good time despite what is happening. The previous plan was perfect. the full closing is unreasonable. Maintaining social distancing at the mountain is a no brainer.
Ane not essential stop like this is not helping, but the opposite, supporting the crucial damage to the economy.

    • Hi Anna, we understand and share your disappointment. The park remains open if you want to explore the trails in E.C. Manning Park. Sorry for your challenges with our Front Desk team, who is doing their utmost in this difficult time. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

      • Hi
Do you feel the campsite will be open in June as many are self contained in trailers?

        • We do not know what the situation will be for June, which is still several months away, however, we will be closely following the developments and will update whenever we know more.

    • I agree with Anna 100%

      Very disappointing typical management decision…

      • Sorry that you feel that way, Alex. We understand it is disappointing, however, we recognize that we all have a role to play in protecting the public and our staff.

      • Alex, this is not a “typical management decision”, they are following the mandate set out by the public health officer who has ALL of our best interest at heart. Cut them some slack, they know these decisions affect many people. You can still travel to the trails in the park, you just can’t stay there.

  5. Can lift tickets still be purchased at the hill tomorrow and Wednesday, or are sales suspended?

    • Online sales are suspended, but the ski area will be open until end of day Wednesday.

  6. I’ve been trying to get through all day. I will have to cancel our reservation as we had a limited window to travel. Very bummed.

    • We are experiencing high call volumes and apologize for the delay. Please note that we have relaxed our cancellation policy and will be working with our guest reservations to change them. Thanks for your patience!

  7. I booked a 2-night stay thru hotel.com. Should I cancel it?
Note: I already sent an email to info@manningpark.com about this. Thanks.

    • Hi William, we are experiencing high call volumes and apologize for the delay. Please note that we have relaxed our cancellation policy and will be working through our reservations to change them. Thanks for your patience!

  8. I would just like to make a comment. I was skiing up at Manning on Sunday and it was a stellar day. Saying that, it was not busy at all. This decision to close would not have been made lightly, we have had an amazing ski season and the snow keeps falling. There are no winners with this decision to close however, with the hysteria actions of the hoarding of essential supplies, how can the resort operate if the basic supplies are unavailable. Public, please be patient with the resort staff, these are unusual circumstances and they will attempt to accommodate any changes as much as possible. Regards,
    Jan Bentley (Snow School)

    • Thank you, Jan! Glad you had a great day on Sunday!

  9. A recent quote from BC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said “Go outside and play with your family. Go up to our ski hills.”

    Thanks for closing…

    • Hi Mike, this comment was made before further comments from her which changed the maximum amount of people able to gather to 50 people. Although we appreciate her comments, we have to follow suit to do our part. The provincial park remains open, so please feel free to explore the trails!

      • The trails are open? We are able to walk up without using the lift?

        • Access to the ski area is restricted at the gate at Strawberry Flats, however, the trails in the park are open.

  10. I have a gift certificate that expires this season, what do I do? Please contact me.

    • Hi Michelle, please send an email to marketing@manningpark.com with the gift certificate number and we can look into it.

  11. Just to confirm- I was supposed to come up next week for two nights
At some point you will refund my deposit – correct??
    Terry

    • Hi Terry, we will be working through our guest reservations to change them and will be in contact in the next few days. Thanks for your patience!

  12. Good morning, I’m sorry to hear that you are closing the resort. I understand that you will be very busy with people phoning. I will wait a few days and call to discuss some options hopefully a refund and then we will just rebook for next year. My family was set to arrive Thursday and stay two nights.

    Sincerely
    Ben Arcuri

    • Thanks Ben, we will be working through our guest reservations to change them and will be in contact in the next few days. Thanks for your patience!

      • can you please state whether the tube park will remain open. thank

        • The tube park and all operations in the entire resort will cease as of 4pm Wednesday March 18, until further notice d.

  13. Hi Vern and MP team. Tuesday, March 17 at 15:31 PDT

1st you’re doing the right thing, as tough as it is. This paramedic supports you in making the smart move. No sense in sending your Working Holiday employees back home at the end of their contracts with a nasty souvenir.

2nd.. Just bought my 1st Manning Pass ever for 20-21 season (a Seniors Pass to boot as I will have lots of time to ski next winter)(grin).

How do I pick it up my 20-21 Seniors Pass now please? Was going to pick it up this Friday and do my 1st ski at Manning.

    Kinds regards,
    Hugh-SG

    • Hi Hugh, thanks for your kind words and congrats on your first Manning Park season pass! We regret that all our season pass operations will be suspended as well with our closure so you won’t be able to pick up the season pass until we reopen. Please keep an eye out for updates on our website.

  14. Sometimes doing the right thing is difficult to do. But I thank you for being responsible. I also appreciate the tone used to respond to folks who are upset. Stay safe everyone.

  15. I think you are so wise to close the resort.! Thank you for doing your part to not spread the virus. This is something we all have not seen before! We have a night stay in May…but totally understand and besides with people staying in the accommodations who wants to come in after them and chance catching it. I don’t understand people not realizing this. Lets not spread it around more. Hopefully by May it will be back to normal but not what they are saying! Thank you I totally agree with your decision. We will keep our reservation till closer to the time.

  16. So, you are not providing any refunds for lift tickets bought online? You closed your hill and they can’t be used and you aren’t giving a refund ?!?!?! Credit toward future use? Um, no thanks. I’d rather the money be in my pocket for the next year. I paid for tickets for my 2 sons to ski and would like a refund. Please contact me.

    • Hi Scott, thanks for your question. If you can please send an email with the details of your purchase to seasonpass@manningpark.com we can look into your question. Thanks!

  17. Can we use your pond for skating?

    • Hi Chase, the trails in the park remain open for day use. Lightning Lake may be frozen still however we don’t check the ice and so we don’t ever make recommendations for access on it. Have a great day!

  18. Can you please clarify if the cross-country ski trails are still open and accessible from the Strawberry Flats parking area?

    • The park and trails in E.C. Manning Park remain open (including the ones at Strawberry Flats), however, we are not grooming cross-country trails any longer this season.

  19. Is it possible to access x-country trails from Strawberry flats this Sunday for day skiing?

    • The park and trails in E.C. Manning Park remain open (including the ones at Strawberry Flats), however, we are not grooming cross-country trails any longer this season.

  20. Hi there,

I have bought a flex pass that has an expiry date of April 5th – do we get an extension or can we use it for next season as this season was shut down early? Or what are our options?

    • Hi Emily, thanks for your question. If you can please send in a photo of your flex pass to seasonpass@manningpark.com, and the name of the purchaser, we can look into your question with you. Thanks!

  21. My friends wedding is in may (end) will she need to reschedule? Should she? I’m sure she needs as much time to rearrange things as possible!
